Tour De France Stage 6 from Brest to the gruelling Mur-de-Bretagne (181 km) is a hilly profile with a tough finish. The hill will have to be climbed twice in the last 16 kilometers. Don’t miss our Tour De France Stage 6 betting preview, best odds, expert tips on Winner & Head to Head, bookie offers & no deposit free bets for all cycling punters!TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 6 BETTING PREVIEW This stage finishes with a circuit of two climbs up the famous 2km road which averages a severe 6.9% gradient. The climb itself ramps up to more than 10 per cent for the first kilometre, before easing off a little for the final 1,000m to the line. It is a stage which invites a breakaway, with two early categorised climbs to attack, but we believe that punchy one-day specialists will be the real contenders at the end.
GC riders – Froome included – will make their first priority simple staying close to the front of the main bunch and out of trouble. In 2011 and 2015, several GC contenders lost a handful of seconds on the Mûr.
So, who are the favourites to win this stage?
Mûr-de-Bretagne is perfect for puncheurs, or riders who can make sharp, powerful accelerations on steep climbs. It could be too tough for Peter SaganTour De France Odds 2018 World Cup, who was impressive as usual in his Stage 5 success, but Philippe Gilbert, Julian Alaphilippe and Alejandro Valverde will perform very well.
They are all former winners of Flèche-Wallonne, a one-day race in April that finishes atop a climb similar to the Mûr.
Daniel Martin was quiet on Stage 5, so we don’t know if his form is poor or if he saved his legs for the Mur De Bretagne stage. The Irishman finished 5 seconds runner up to Alexis Vuillermoz on the same finish back in 2015.
Philippe Gilbert finished third behind Sagan and Colbrelli on Wednesday. He is also third in the GC standings, three seconds behind Greg Van Avermaet and could target the Yellow Jersey.
Another rider that could be in the mix is Sonny Colbrelli, who has twice finished runner up so far. The Italian, who won over the Hatta Dam this year, don’t mind a hill as well as Jelle Vanendert who had an excellent Ardennes week on this kind of terrain.
Geraint Thomas and Michal Kwiatkowski are both capable to contest the victory here, but we expect both Sky guys to protect their captain Froome rather than run for personal glory.
What about GC contenders? Richie Porte thrives on short efforts, as does Simon Yates and Chris Froome isn’t half bad either.
Mikel Landa was impressive at the Tour De Suisse on the small inclines bu he could lead Valverde up the final climb rather than run to win himself.
Vincenzo Nibali also showed good legs on Wednesday’s stage, comfortably keeping himself in the first 10 riders of the peloton until the final meters.Tour De France Odds 2018 Election
Dark horses?
Soren Kragh Andersen and Andrea Pasqualon both finished in the top 10 on Stage 5 and could be in the mix despite this finish is tougher. Alexis VuillermozTour De France Odds 2018, winner here three years ago, can’t be ruled out. Romain Bardet and Rigoberto Uran are viable option for those who are seeking long-shots.
